ILO can be precipitated by various factors inclusive of Exercise, anxiety, and external Environmental stimulants. In addition, conditions that damage the vocal cords e.g., GORD, Candidiasis, Nasal drip have been linked to exacerbating ILO.
The article reviews current knowledge and practice in the evaluation and management of patients presenting with shortness of breath suggestive of ILO. Simulating conditions such as asthma, Tracheomalacia are discussed with a view to highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis and management.
A multidisciplinary approach to patient care is recommended. Inclusive of ENT, Psychiatry, Pulmonologists, Speech and Language Therapists, physiotherapists.
